Dagupan City Water District (DCWD) made waves on March 24, 2025, as it joined forces with Bonuan Buquig National High School (BBNHS) and the School Parents-Teacher Association (SPTA)-BBNHS to celebrate and observe World Water Day. With the localized theme, “Water: Life and Future of Dagupan City,” the event inspired young minds through a Poster Making Contest and an Extemporaneous Speech Contest, with enthusiastic participation from Grades 7 to 10 students.
Thanks to DCWD’s Gender and Development (GAD) program, this exciting initiative was made possible with the full support of the DCWD Board of Directors (BOD), led by Chairperson Arlene Ann G. Sanchez, and the active participation of the dedicated DCWD workforce, headed by General Manager Gretchen G. Buena.
Adding prestige to the event, Honorable Dagupan City Mayor Belen T. Fernandez graced the occasion, passionately emphasizing the importance of water conservation and the protection of our water resources. GM Buena also delivered an inspiring message, reminding students that World Water Day should not just be a one-day advocacy but a lifetime commitment. Meanwhile, SPTA-BBNHS President Alexander Gonzales warmly welcomed the participants, expressing gratitude to DCWD for choosing BBNHS as this year’s host. Dr. Marckoni F. Taroma, Principal of BBNHS, also extended his heartfelt appreciation for providing students a platform to showcase their talents and raise awareness about the importance of water.
Armed with courage and conviction, students took the stage to deliver impromptu speeches on water conservation, the future of water supply, and the urgent need to protect our water resources. Ella Jhane E. Valen from Grade 9 – STE was awarded the 3rd place while Yzteven Kish V. Casilang from Grade 10 – STE placed 2nd and Gwen S. Acosta from Grade 8 – STE garnered the highest score and won 1st place. Their words flowed like a mighty river, proving that the youth of Dagupan City are not just future leaders but today’s water warriors!
With color pastels, pencils, and a whole lot of passion, young artists translated their thoughts on water concerns into stunning masterpieces. Precious Jayvie D. Meneses 7 – A from Grade 7 bagged the 3rd place; Noelle Faye A. Villare from Grade 10 – STE was awarded 2nd place and Macintosh R. Manaois from Grade 8 – A won the 1st place. Their artworks not only showcased their talents but also painted a vivid picture of a future where water is protected, valued, and sustained.
As the curtains closed on this year’s World Water Day celebration, one thing was crystal clear: DCWD isn’t just about pipes and pumps; it’s about passion, purpose, and partnerships! By engaging the youth in meaningful activities like these, DCWD reaffirms its commitment to education, sustainability, and shaping a brighter, water-secure future for Dagupan City.
Because in the end, every drop counts, every voice matters, and every color stroke tells a story—one where Dagupan City’s water future remains bright, flowing, and full of life!
