On a sunlit morning, the Dagupan City Water District (DCWD) embarked on an inspiring coastal cleanup drive at Barangay Pugaro-Suit, aligning with this year’s theme “Kalinisan ng Dagat, Kalinisan ng Lahat.”
This initiative not only highlights the importance of preserving Dagupan City’s coastal environment but also underscores the community’s collective responsibility in safeguarding their natural resources.
The event was made possible through the enthusiastic support of the DCWD Board of Directors, led by the dynamic Chairperson Dr. Arlene Ann G. Sanchez, alongside the strategic leadership of General Manager Gretchen G. Buena.
This cleanup drive was not just an isolated event; it was part of DCWD’s Gender and Development (GAD) program, with Mr. Jason G. Estrada at the helm as the GAD Focal Point System Team Leader.
In collaboration with the Pugaro-Suit Barangay Council, led by Punong Barangay Nestor Y. Victorio, the day was filled with determination and teamwork. Residents, local leaders, and DCWD employees joined forces, armed with gloves and bags, to tackle litter along the shoreline.
Together, they demonstrated that when a community unites for a common cause, remarkable outcomes can be achieved. The cleanup drive coincided with the International Coastal Cleanup month, an important global initiative aimed at raising awareness about marine debris and its impact on coastal ecosystems.
Dagupan City, being a coastal area requires environmental initiatives crucial for its preservation. Participants engaged not just in picking up trash but also in meaningful conversations about the importance of maintaining clean oceans and the role of every individual in this ongoing mission.
As they collected waste, it became clear that this simple act of cleaning up would create a ripple effect—one that leads to a healthier marine environment and a more sustainable future.
As the activity ends, the echoes of laughter and teamwork lingered, serving as a reminder that a clean ocean is not just a goal but a shared commitment—a principle that DCWD and the community of Dagupan City are dedicated to uphold.
